Paving, Grading & Gravel Driveways in Cashiers, NC

Cashiers sits at about 3,500 feet where US-64 and NC-107 cross, surrounded by lakes, waterfalls, and some of the steepest and wettest ground in the Blue Ridge. Driveways here climb hard, private roads wind for miles, and the rain never stays away for long. Black Bear Paving has been paving and grading in these mountains for over 25 years, and we work across the Cashiers area: Cashiers, Sapphire, Glenville, and the communities in between.

We work for homeowners, builders, property managers, clubs, and association boards. Call (828) 349-3390 or request a free estimate.

Paving & Grading Services in Cashiers

Building for the Cashiers Plateau

Water. The southern edge of the plateau is one of the rainiest places in the East. A driveway or road here is a drainage project first: crown, ditches, culverts, and stable outlets are what keep gravel in place and asphalt intact.

Grade. Long, steep driveways and switchbacks are normal. They need a route and a grade that work in winter, room for delivery trucks and fire engines to turn, and asphalt placed and compacted properly on the slope.

Season. At this elevation the paving window is shorter than in the valleys, and summer is when everyone wants to be home. Late spring and fall are the best times for driveway and road work, and those dates fill early.

Finish. Clean edges, neat tie-ins at stone columns, garages, and walks, and a site left tidy. On a mountain home, the driveway is part of the architecture.

For Second-Home Owners & Property Managers

Much of Cashiers is seasonal, and we're used to working for owners who are elsewhere. We can meet your caretaker or property manager on site, send photos and a written estimate by email, and do the work while you're away so it is finished and cured when you arrive for the season.

For Associations, Clubs & Developers

Private road systems, clubhouse and amenity parking, cart paths, and service drives all need periodic attention. We assess association roads section by section, price the work in phases a board can budget for, and bid site and paving packages from plans for developers and builders. See private and association roads and parking lots. In winter, we offer plowing and ice control for private roads, lots, and steep drives.

Where We Work Around Cashiers

We also cover Cullowhee, Sylva, and the rest of Jackson County, and Lake Toxaway to the east.
